NBA Top Picks 1/4: Low Score Imminent in MSG and the Big Easy

I did pretty good yesterday if I do say so myself. I got all three of my top picks correct, and I’m pretty proud of that. My record, 3–0. I truly do want to give all you bettors out there an edge and help basketball fans in general understand the game we love deeper. Now, the selection today is limited with only 5 games, but I was able to craft two picks that I am confident in. Hey, something is better than nothing.

Indiana’s Domantas Sabonis celebrates a basket.

Indiana Pacers @ New York Knicks Under 207

Both teams will be missing key scorers and offensive pieces for tonight’s contest. Guards Malcom Brogdon, Chris Duarte, and Caris LeVert will be out for the Pacers. The Knicks will be missing Centers Nerlens Noel and Mitchell Robinson. They’ll also be without guard Kemba Walker and star PF Julius Randle is questionable. Randle has been averaging a double-double over his last 5 games and missing him would make the Knicks even more offensively challenged. Both teams are in the bottom half of the league in scoring, and that number will drop even more with key players not suiting up. The Knicks have averaged only 95.2 points in their last 5 while only allowing on average 95 points during that same time frame. New York’s home games go under 55.6% of the time, and Indiana’s road games go under 64.7% of the time. Confidently expect a low-scoring affair at Madison Square Garden.

Phoenix’s Devin Booker surveys the floor looking for a scoring opportunity.

Phoenix Suns @ New Orleans Pelicans Under 224.5

The Phoenix Suns are one of the best teams in basketball right now. They do have an electric offense, but something underrated about this Suns team is their defense. PG Chris Paul is 4th in the league in steals per game. They kept opponents under 100 points in 2 of their last 3 games. They have the 5th best scoring defense in the NBA and the under on their road games hits 62.5% of the time. New Orleans has an 18–12 under record as a dog and has recorded more than 115 points in a single game only once since December 1st. This matchup is primed to be the antithesis of yesterday’s Hawks-Blazers game.

Conclusion

There are my two most confident wagers today. It’s a pretty short article, but sometimes it’s nice to keep it short and sweet. I wouldn’t want to bore everyone spitting out statistics for 8 minutes. Let’s see how I do tonight, I’m hoping for some nice results.
