Grizzlies down Cavs for 6th Straight Win in Battle Between Young PG’s

Terribly sorry everybody for this story being extremely late today. I was uploading my past articles onto a personal website that I was cleaning up and polishing in all my usual writing time. Memphis’ Ja Morant stares down an opposing player.

Ja Morant and the Grizzlies beat Darius Garland and the Cavaliers on the road last night in a battle between two young point guards. Morant and Garland are both members of the 2019 draft class and led each of their teams in points yesterday (Morant had 26, while Garland had 27). Ja’s stat line also consisted of 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Darius double-doubled, dishing 10 helpers, while also contributing 4 rebounds. He had an amazing 10:1 turnover ratio in last night’s contest. The game was close all night, with no team being down by more than 15 points during the duration of the game. The Grizzlies owned a 5 point lead with 2:03 left and maintained it. Ja Morant scored a bucket with 29.9 seconds left on the clock, bringing the score up to 106–104 in Memphis’ favor. He sealed the game on the next sequence, stealing a pass from G Brandon Goodwin and scoring with 21.4 seconds remaining. He knocked down two free throws after a Lauri Markkanen layup to ensure the Grizz’s 6th straight win. During the 6-game win streak, Morant has been on fire averaging 30.6 points per game. C Steven Adams has gobbled up the boards for Memphis, averaging 11.2 during the run. Everything seems to be clicking for this Grizzlies team, who now stand 4th in the West with a 25–14 record. Cleveland will drop to 21–17, which is still good for 6th in the East. They have been on a slide, losing their last 4 of 5 games, but the young talent present in their team leaves us to believe better days are to come. Rookie PF Evan Mobley has shown talent alongside Darius Garland, averaging 13.8 points and 8.6 rebounds in his last 5. Cleveland’s next contest falls on the 7th, where they start a 6-game road trip against the struggling Trail Blazers. The Grizzlies will seek out their 7th consecutive win tomorrow night, as they host the 2nd worst team in the NBA, the Detroit Pistons.
